Chapter 5: A New Home, New Hope, and a Hidden Agenda

       "DRAFT"

It wasn't long before we had another visit from Ms. Jessica Lemoy. Once again she appeared unannounced at the new lab we had built. This time Dr. James did not greet her so respectfully in fact he down right told her to remove herself from the property or he would have her removed. The audacity of the woman to stroll into our labs like nothing had happened. It took everything in me not to snap her neck right then and there. The part that bothered us the most was her intense interest in Selah. She kept asking where we were hiding her and how much would it cost her to get a look at Selah’s new body. Dr. James had enough at this point and had security contact the authorities. She was quickly removed and reminded not to step foot on the property again. One problem with that, we all know how well people with money listen to the authorities. A little cash in the right pocket and things like “restraining orders” and “no trespassing signs” disappear. It didn’t take her long to act either, with in the week Dr. James received notification his restraining orders had been revoked and the posted status of the properties was also terminated. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who had done this, and we had a lab full of them. Dr. James kept his fears to himself and had us continue our work.

A few weeks later Dr. James called a meeting of all of his top staff. He notified us he had used the money he had saved over the years and some donations to purchase an island. It was located off the shores of Brazil we Lemoy Corporation was truly hated. The government there promised Dr. James their full support in securing the island and labs to be built there. We had no reason to doubt them as Lemoy Corporation had done horrible things to the people of this country. The used black market slave labor in the factories in Brazil to cut the cost of manufacturing in their commercial craft division. The people in Brazil attempted to kill Lemoy herself and her entire senior staff when they found out that was where their children had been disappearing to.  Brazil promised to support us in any way they could. We all discussed it and decided it was for the best. None of them really had family minus a few and the ones who did their families were happy to move to a tropical paradise.

The move was not a pleasant situation but Dr. James had built lab facilities like we had never seen before on the island. We all had homes for our families and he had even built a school for the children, it was a safe place. I found out as we were packing that is was for the best. Lemoy Corp had just filed petition to purchase and seize my grandfather’s farm. Apparently nearly killing my soon to be wife was not enough for this woman. She decided she had to destroy my childhood home as well. It was Selah that helped me get through all of this. Despite all she had gone through she was still so much stronger than I could ever hope to be. She said that all that mattered was we had a new home and had a family to surround ourselves with.

The day had come for us to get on the transports to travel to the island. It felt like forever traveling from North America all the way to Brazil. When we finally arrived we all gasped with surprise, it was beautiful. Dr. James had worked hard to make sure the labs and facilities he had built did not interfere with the nature on the island. It was a lush garden for us to call home. You could see the homes he had built us circling around the center mountain side with pads for us each to have a personal transport to travel to and from the island. And the labs climbed the side of the mountain as he didn’t want to remove any more trees than absolutely necessary. It was our home and Dr. James did everything he could to make it the warmest and most welcoming home we could have. As we landed at the main dock we could hear the tropical birds flying around and singing their songs. In the distance you could always hear the ocean waves crashing against the shores and you could smell the salt water in the air mixed with the perfumes of the tropical flowers and fruits on the island.  Finally we were home.

Shortly after arriving on the island Dr. James called in some old favors and hired a security team to patrol the island and surrounding waters. We had completely cut our selves off from the outside world, unfortunately Lemoy Corp left us no other options. Of course we were able to travel to the mainland and we all did often. We would go for supplies and to transport medical equipment and prosthetics to be shipped to the patients who needed them. We had started production of the artificial bodies and were having to produce at least 4 a month. As a family we were doing well and had everything we needed. Dr. James had moved the control system for the Core to the island and he was able to monitor it from there. So while it wasn’t home, it had somehow become even better than home ever was.

Throughout all of this Dr. James had been paying some individual to do some investigation into Jessica Lemoy and her actions against us. He got weekly reports on information on their attempts to manufacture the replacement bodies and even secure ones in use by patients. She was on a mad rampage to save herself. Because after all how could the world go on without her gracing it with her presence.  A few weeks later Dr. James called me into his office, he had received some news that scared him. One of his agents had found paper work describing exactly what to do to Dr. James Daughter to make sure he would be forced to create her a new body. It explained in detail exactly where to shoot her and what bones to break. All of this was nothing more than a tactic, a hidden agenda to force Dr. James to do his best work so Ms. Jessica Lemoy could steal the body. Despite our anger we both decided to not tell Selah, this wasn’t something we did not her to be worried about. You can’t live your life constantly thinking someone is trying to steal your body. Dr. James informed security to constantly monitor her but to keep it quiet. We called Selah in and explain to her that due to Lemoy Corporation and their actions when she and I left the island we had to take personal guards with us. It was just a precautionary thing to make sure we were safe. She was happy to allow it and said she got along with all of the security staff anyways.

After a few weeks we had all settled in and Selah decided it was time we finally got married. Everyone was happy and the planning began right away. Throughout all of this Selah had been working with physical therapist and had learned how to use her body. She was back to normal as though nothing had happened. She was always my inspiration, if she could go through all of that and still smile. Then how could I ever justify a frown. A few weeks later the day came for our wedding. Dr. James flew a priest out from the local church and we had an amazing ceremony. Every one partied threw out the day. Steven told me that everyone saw our wedding as a slap in Lemoy Corporation’s face. Despite them doing everything to end it all. Today was a celebration that you could never keep us down.
